Of course our tiny tot is amazing and beautiful and talented and... (okay, I will stop myself before I write 10 pages), BUT she is one heck of a little athlete. She LOVES to play with any type of ball, so I think sports may definitely be her thing. During a trip to the park on Saturday, we discovered the girl can kick sans soccer practice. Check her out!

Who Loves You Baby....
Did you think I disappeared again? Well, I did for several days to D.C. for work but I am committed to the blog this go round. CUTE STORY ALERT: Grandma and Papa (as named by Emmy) graciously flew down to watch the munchkin (THANK YOU) while I was away, so I picked her up at daycare straight from the airport yesterday. As I was carrying her out to the car I said, "I missed you!" And she replied, "I missed you." I just about died from the cuteness, and also from the fact that it was the first time I think I have heard her string three words together into a sentence. SO, I must dedicate today to Emmy's cuteness.
Of course, she exudes cuteness, but another recent memory comes to mind that I must share. I think the world knows that she is OBSESSED with Elmo. Chris and I broke down and took her to see Sesame Street Live a week and a half ago. I was worried she may not "get" it yet, or that it would be too much. WRONG. She LOVED it. She stood on my lap for the entire hour and a half show and was mesmorized. The best part (for me) was when we walked into the Frank Erwin Center (photo below).
She ran up to the souvenir stand where attached was a wooden Elmo and she hugged it. Does it get any cuter??? I think not...

It's in the Bag!
So this post is for my mommy friends out there... one of my fabulous finds via a local baby boutique, Baby Bugaloo. I have been searching high and low for a CUTE bag that serves doubletime as both my purse and diaper bag. I'm tired of carrying two, and ready for something new and fun for the spring. Bingo! Timi and Leslie has answered my calls with their trendy and fun totes.
The Dawn bag caught my eye on said boutique's Facebook page. Such a pretty gray/blue. Looks totally appropriate for work and fun. Ever better, has tons of pockets and pouches AND comes with a changing pad and wristlet so you can pull your essentials out when running quick errands sans kiddo and not wanting to lug everything with you.
I have been feeling like frumpy mommy and decided I need some "pop," so I went for the Charlie tote in teal.
And like any good bargain-hunting mommy, I cannot pay boutique prices; I found the bag on Amazon for $150. Though not cheap, it technically is two bags for the price of one and I had a Groupon coupon for Amazon - SCORE! It arrived and looks just as awesome in person. I can't wait to sport this bad boy on our vacation to La Jolla next month... I think I'll be getting some compliments. And even if I don't, I know I definitely will not be feeling frumpy with this cool find slung on my shoulder :)

The Coffey Sketch
So I've had some comments and inquiries about the awesome header on our blog. My uber-talented graphic designer at work is creating a drawing a day on her website. One day she made my day with the "Not Your Average Joes" Coffey sketch. As we discussed, it could not represent us any better from Venti (tall) Chris to the bean being Emelia (her namesake before we knew what she would be), and of course, the jittery espresso for Sophie the spazzy dachshund.
Check out her fun artwork at http://spooningupstars.tumblr.com/. Enjoy!

I'm BAAAAAACK... after a short 13 month hiatus.
So I fell off the blogging bandwagon for a short while (okay, so what it if was a short year?!). Our little bean is now a beautiful, boisterous toddler who buzzes about the house like such a little grown up now. She is intelligent, independent, stubborn and nothing short of AMAZING!
As Emmy truly has grown up so much in the past year, I decided it was time to start posting again (in an attempt to document and keep up with her). "Our Journey to the Littlest Bean" has morphed into the "The Coffey Buzz"... a place to keep you up-to-date on our latest antics, adventures and some awesome internet finds. Enjoy!

Long Time, So Much To Report
The Austin Coffeys recently traveled to historic Fort Worth and officially sealed Emelia's adoption. Texas law required us to wait six months before making the little monkey's adoption legally recognized. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Grandma and Grandpa from St. Louis, Granny from Philadelphia and relatives from Kansas City and Chicago all made the trip to make Emelia's Adoption Finalization Fiesta a huge success.
The courtroom was decorated with balloons and stuffed animals and the judge was amazing. He avoided speaking "legaleeze" and made everyone feel truly comfortable, which only added to the celebratory aura in the air.

To top it off, our awesome friends, Matt and Crystal, invited everyone to their home and prepared a great dinner. We can't thank them enough for their wonderful hospitality.

What's next for the little one? We hope rolling over and crawling soon. We are working on it every day and she's showing good progress. Emelia Claire is growing like a weed. She weighed in at 20.5 pounds at her six month check up. She's constantly smiling and she loves, loves, loves playing with her toys and reading books.

Testing Out the Tastebuds
Following her four month check-up this week, we started Emelia on her menu of new foods. Her first "go" was oatmeal. She definitely wasn't sure what to do with it the first night...
...but seemed to be enjoying it by the end of the bowl.
The next two days of oatmeal went okay. We don't think she is totally nuts about it, though maybe it is the spoon and bowl she is not crazy over. After the mess made on night one, we decided it was time to set-up the high chair. She looks a little dejected the first time sitting in her feeding throne... we call this photo "the last supper" (check out the pitiful look on her face).
Tonight, she got to move onto sweet potatoes. We got a lot of smiles at first... but again, not so thrilled by the end of the meal. After two more days, she'll get to try carrots and squash; hopefully she'll get the hang of it soon.

Our BIG Little Girl
We've been telling you that Emelia is growing and changing at warp speed... and today that was confirmed. She was in the 25th percentile at her 2 week check-up, the 50th at 2 months, and today at 4 months, she is in the whopping 90th percentile! Our little pumpkin weighs 16 pounds and is 25 inches long!
We were also right about the screaming wake up calls occurring numerous times a night; poor pooper is teething. With the teeth, and the pounds, comes real food. We were told to start oatmeal right away and then introduce a new vegetable every three to four days. This week's menu will include oatmeal, sweet potatoes, squash and carrots. You can bet there will be some interesting photos in the weeks to come!

Our Little Pumpkin
Emelia enjoyed a very busy weekend and first Halloween. We started with a LONG walk on Friday afternoon; it was a GORGEOUS day outside! It was Emmy's first stroll in the "big girl" stroller seat. As you can see below, she was pretty comfortable :)
On Saturday, we spent the afternoon at the Texas Book Festival downtown, where she loved checking out all of the people and entertainment. She ended up skipping her nap because she was so enthralled by everything and everyone...

She was wiped out by the evening... she ended up snoozing through most of the trick or treaters, though she was awake for about 30 minutes of handing out candy on the driveway and chatting with the neighbors.
Practicing her surprised look (AKA "BOO")!
This morning, we put together Emelia's stationary entertainer, which seems to be a BIG hit (thanks, Granny!). She loves all of the toys on it. Now, if her legs would just grow a little more, she could stand and spin herself in it (soon enough).
